Welcome! It is said that we should be kind to the earth, kind to others and kind to ourselves. In so many ways this simply means getting back to basics in the way we live.
The 21st Century model for urban living needs to be improved. Change needs to occur if we hope to sustain ourselves here in the Americas and on planet Earth.
Getting back to basics and being self-reliant is the right path to finding a new and better life. I look forward to blogging the basic lifestyle and connecting with others who are on the same journey!

August 12, 2008:

Todays inspiration “at the end of the path…is a new beginning”. This one thought has led me on a journey in search of a life of simplicity and self-reliance.
My quest led me to review Thoreau’s “Walden”. What I realized, that in order to break free from the complexity of day-to-day life, I would have to give up some of the pre-conceived ideals that at one time worked. Also, if I look deep into my heart I know that the standards that I try to live my life by today don’t fit anymore. I know this because anything right and good should be simple and enjoyable. Life should not be difficult or stressful.
After months of clearing the path (my personal self-discovery) I finally reached the end. Now I was free to begin anew.
Through my own experience, here are some of the steps I have taken to free myself from the limitations of living life the old way.
1. I removed the negative influence of television media. I willfully gave my big black tv away. Best thing I have ever done. Now I can control what I see and hear.
2. I eliminated my credit card debt. I withdrew from my life savings and just paid them off and kept only 2 of them. Another best thing. I actually doubled my monthly cash flow.
3. I got rid of non-essential clutter in the home place. I cleared closets for months and gave away clothes, furniture and kept only the essential items for day-to-day living and things that I truly loved.
4. I started teaching myself how to become self-reliant. How to be totally responsible for my own life. I am studying the art of growing my own food, how to become self-employed and how to manage my own health.
I will continue to share my success so that others may benefit. This fits and I believe it is the right path to Freedom.
If you are following a similar journey I hope to hear from you.
