The Long Nights Time (Nov 23 – Dec 21)

Posted on January 16, 2010 with No Comments

The Long Nights cycle brings with it the power of introspection and new opportunities. During this cycle  one can see for long distances while the air is cold, crisp and clear. It is a good time to determine your personal goals, make changes and to find new directions in life.

During this darkest month even though the power of the Sun is diminished it should be seen as an opportunity to seek out hope and encouragement from within. The waning of the suns energy is a good stimulator to search out  your personal foresight and vision. This is also a good time to explore and be pioneering.

Another interesting aspect of this time is its direction on the medicine wheel. It precedes a cosmic gateway which cultivates rebirth, hence, the celebration of Yuletide on December 22nd which is considered the birth of cosmic consciousness. It symbolizes the initiation into the unknown mysteries of life and is said to bring great powers of creative thought.

The essence of this cycle can be best described as a time where you may experience being: warm hearted, adventurous, sincere, versatile, scrupulous, social and determined.

Medicine totems: Owl, Grizzly bear, Hawk, Mistletoe, Obsidian.

Affinity Colors: Gold

I Ching: The still mountain. Steadfastness and inner peace.

Best day of the week: Thursday

The Long Nights Time: is a path that can lead to discovery of ones own potential.  This time is a gift because is represents the inner beauty of ones self, to be your own creator. Its a time to balance mind with heart.  A time of opportunity to raise morality and to obtain the vision of spiritual insight.

The journey down this life path has brought me to a better place.  Traveling the Native American Medicine Wheel is one of the greatest adventures and I hope you are inspired to try it yourself.

Heirloom seeds may become a most valuable commodity

Posted on November 5, 2009 with No Comments

heirloom urban gardenIf the economic downturn continues and turns to hyper-inflation, goods will become far more valuable than money itself. This has happened many times all over the world. In these extreme circumstances basic necessities such as food, and seeds become the most valuable goods available. As money declines in value these things rise right along with gold, other precious metals and other basic commodities.

Vegetable garden seeds, being a concentrated food-source, are perhaps the MOST valuable commodity of all in such conditions. Certainly the most compact value one can think of! For most of 2008, gold was valued between $700 and $900 an ounce. If paper money “tanks” and hard goods become king, seed will dominate the landscape. and…..who knows, maybe seeds will reach hundreds of dollars an ounce. Heirloom Organics is preparing for just this sort of occurrence with the Open Seed Exchange (OSX), an online trading system for high-value seeds in a hyper-inflationary economy. In short, if you buy seeds from Heirloom Organics now, you will have access to the trading system once it becomes necessary and available and will be able to trade seeds for cash or other commodities. We are sorry, OSX is available ONLY to owners of Heirloom Organics non-hybrid seeds in unopened archival packaging. Since we can only guarantee seeds we know, we can only provide this trading platform to those who own the seeds we know.

The Frost Time (October 23rd – November 22nd)

The Frost Time

The Frost Time is akin to the setting sun and the season of autumn where leaves fall from the trees and  where Nature begins a period of transformation and regeneration.  Frost is a reminder that winter represents the end, but when warmed is renewed overnight.  During this transformational cycle great ideas and enthusiasm are ever present.  It is important to keep emotions warm so that energy can flow freely.

The Ancients considered this time to be the pivotal point of the entire yearly cycle.  Seen as a “twilight” period between the visible and invisible worlds of reality. A time when both physical and spiritual become closer together. It was also a time where the emotional closeness can me felt  more keenly.

This cycle brings power and strength and is a time to be introspective about life and work on emotional endurance. Its a good time to be mindful of excesses and to keep fun time in balance.  Don’t take life to seriously!  This is a mystical time and if you work with its essence it can lead us to find our deepest desires, seek change and let go of what is no longer useful.

The essence of this cycle can be best described as a time where you may experience being: ambitious, impulsive, intense, determined, sensuous and mysterious.

Medicine totems: Snake, Grizzly Bear, Beaver, Thistle, Amethyst (animal, plant, minerals associated with this earth cycle.)

Affinity Colors: Violet

I Ching: Earth receptiveness and success through persistence

Best Day of the week: Tuesday.

The Frost Time: can be a time to let go of the old and unnecessary things in our lives. Be true to ourselves and work with the emotional self.  We need to be willing to trust the invisible workings of Nature and the Universe which can bring about a better life-experience.  Enjoy the warmth of friendships and become pioneers once again during our precious earth walk.

The awesome power received through the study of the Native American Medicine Wheel has once again paved the way to a greater understanding of “who we are” and “why we are here”.

I wish you well in all your personal journeys!

Canyon Reverie by R. Carlos Nakai

Grand CanyonThis great video creation by “FlorideinWater” captures the essence of the Eagle in flight over the Grand Canyon along with R. Carlos Nakai’s musical energy.

What you have here is the wonderful sweet calming effect of Nakai’s flute accompanied by the stark, attention grabbing beauty of the Grand Canyon.

It is as if the Eagle has a camera strapped to its body while flying over the winding canyons, following the Colorado river.

Again, this is a particularly beautiful combination of music and video which leaves you with the knowledge that there are still tremendous values that can be associated with basic lifestyle.

The power of Earth and Nature combined with the energy of the Native American Flute creates beauty of a very powerful kind.

May you walk in beauty always…

The Falling Leaves Time (September 22 – October 21)

Posted on September 24, 2009 with No Comments

falling leaves timeOn September 22nd we entered the Autumn Equinox, the mid point when day and night become equal.  During this Earth cycle Nature begins to slow down, trees begin to drop their leaves, animals prepare for hibernation and renewal, which lies just ahead.

There is much introspection during this time and we should draw from our inner strength.  The power from the western winds influences the mind away from the material world and directs it towards the Spiritual aspects of life.  This is time to slow down, relax and be easy going.  Get in tune with the balance of Nature, and become sensitive to the changes occurring on Earth.

This cycle provides great sustaining power and brings out the best in ourselves, makes us dependable with our partners, friends and co-workers.  It brings about persistence to keep trying until we have achieved our goals.

The essence of this cycle can be best described as a time where you may experience being: Romantic, idealistic, good-natured, tolerant and sensitive

Medicine totems: Crow, Grizzly bear, Ivy, Azurite (animal, plant, minerals associated with this earth cycle.)

Affinity Colors: Blue

I Ching: Desire for achievement.

Best Day of the week: Friday.

Falling Leaves Time: This can be a time to seek balance between harmony and beauty within.  Look for that moment where change and balance in life come together.  Harness this time to review the purpose of the life-experience and put it to good use.

My insight to traveling the Native American Medicine Wheel and the study of how Nature affects our existence here on the Earthly plane has brought me to a greater understanding of unity with the universe.  It’s a way to gain a complete understanding of what our purpose is on Earth, and how the connection with the elements and other forms of life can lead us to understand the true self within.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this post.  I wish you well in your personal journeys.
